Wu Jun's grandfather, a former military cook who served as an ordinary soldier and received a severance payment upon discharge. He returned to his hometown Wujia Village and built a three-room brick-and-tile house. He is raising Wu Jun after the boy's parents died in a fire at the textile mill when Wu Jun was eight. He weaves corn husk mats for extra income and plans to teach Wu Jun cooking skills from his mess hall days.
