Everyone who knew them was aware that Meng Li and Ji Chen were sworn enemies, as incompatible as water and fire.

To avoid provoking Ji Chen, Meng Li always took great pains to steer clear of him whenever they crossed paths.

One day, however, she found herself cornered with no way to escape. Resigned, she decided to face him head-on.

As Ji Chen leaned down toward her, his face approaching her ear, Meng Li was so terrified that she shut her eyes tightly.
