Besides the first "arc" of the novel where he starts as a newbie, he doesn't make any relevant connection with people. Doesn't talk to anyone most of the time. And the pass of time just becomes irrelevant as he "spends 100 years killing monsters" or whatever.
Fun read until your brain thinks "I've already read this", then becomes unbearable.
