For seventeen year old Ekarynne Sangreal, life as the daughter-heir to the ruling family in the township of Caliente isn't a bed of roses.

Her talent as an Empath Weaver is too enormous for her to control, she barely graduated from basic training as a Maiden of the Line, and she is constantly reminded of being an embarrassment to her prestigious family and its long distinguished history.

With the dreaded Summer of Arnval befalling the Mainland -- the yearly phenomenon during which her world and the world of the monstrous Cthuleans is bridged by portals powered by an overabundance of Etheric energy -- Ekarynne finds herself assigned to a platoon of battle-hardened Guardians, and dispatched to protect the town's precious Etherite mines in the distant Ryomere Mountains.

But her troubles worsen when she is caught up in a centuries old struggle between the immortal Archon Princess, the self-appointed ruler of the world, and an ancient arcology known as the Citadel, created by those responsible for terra-forming the planet millennia ago.

Forced to choose a side, she soon realizes that with great power comes great responsibility.

Unfortunately, being responsible is not Ekarynne's forte.
