In the next 24 hours, as I desperately tried to reason with the man who was supposed to be my husband, I cried out, "You can't do this to me." His response, laced with coldness, echoed, "You have no idea why I agreed to marry you."
He then struck me, his words cutting deep, "You claimed love, yet here you are, witnessing this betrayal." My tears welled up as I held onto my stinging left cheek.
"You've misunderstood, dear," he sneered, his laughter chilling. "My intention was to gain control of the inheritance meant for you. But alas, I discovered there's none under your name."
With a cruel twist, he declared, "So now, I'll sell you to a wealthy bachelor for a handsome price, just for your innocence." He dragged me, heartbroken, towards the storeroom.
