Centuries in the future, Earth has transformed beyond recognition due to an event known as the Awakening. This event reshaped the landscape, evolved the beasts and plants, while humans remained unchanged as primates. However, this didn't last long as some intelligent beasts began taking humans in—some as servants, others as cattle.
Centuries later, the discovery of gateways shifted the balance of power. Humans could now challenge the Ascension Rite, allowing them to form pacts with beasts and monsters, gaining powers to protect themselves.
Beasts still ruled supreme in the world, but some benevolent ones allied with humanity. These alliances flourished within the confined domains of the gateways.
Unbeknownst to all, the beasts weren't the only enemies. Numerous monstrous creatures of unimaginable size lurked, waiting, viewing the world as their finest delicacy.
